About our school

Case Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free, Cognia-accredited public charter school serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade in the Middlebury neighborhood of Akron, Ohio. The school is small by design. Principal Jamon McClain runs a building where teachers don't just know your child's grade level; they know what your child ate for breakfast and whether something happened on the bus ride in.

Academics run on the HMH Into Reading curriculum for K through 8, paired with Chad Carr's BLITZ Model. STEM learning is hands-on at every grade level: invention-based projects, science competitions, and problems that connect to real situations outside the building. The school hosts an Invention Convention and holds an annual Science Fair.

Two Deans of Students support every grade level. The school operates on a PBIS framework, which means behavior is taught, not just punished. If a student is struggling with something that isn't math, there's a person and a plan for that, too. Partnerships with local behavioral health agencies extend support past the school walls and into the home.

Community partners include Red Oak, Families First, Peter James, Christ Child Referral Center (which provides uniform assistance), and Arlene's Cuisine. These organizations work with students and families throughout the year.

Middle school students compete in boys basketball, girls basketball, girls volleyball, and cheerleading. Elementary PE focuses on movement, coordination, and teamwork rather than competition.

Free before-care starts at 7:30 a.m. and includes breakfast. Free after-school tutoring runs Monday through Friday until approximately 5:30 p.m., focused on reading and math. Summer enrichment opportunities are available. Every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. Bus transportation is provided through Petermann and community busing options.

Free full-day Kindergarten is available for students who turn 5 by the first day of school. Students who turn 5 by December 31 may qualify for early entrance through an assessment.

Community School

Case Preparatory Academy is a public, community school. We are our own school district sponsored by Richland Academy of the Arts which provides oversight and enforces academic, fiscal, and legal accountability. We are managed by ACCEL Schools, a high performing network of over 50 charter schools located throughout the United States. Community Schools (Charter Schools) offer families an alternative to the local public school. Founded in 2014, ACCEL Schools is a K-12 public charter school management organization (CMO) serving students across the United States in brick-and-mortar, virtual, and hybrid school settings.
